If being in shape feels and looks so good how is it not the most popular possession on the planet?! Just stop for a second…can you answer this question?

If being fit and strong makes your life better in hundreds of ways why aren’t 95% of us coveting exercise rather than the total opposite? The answer is actually simple.

Everything you live comes down to your fight or flight response. Really, you get lost in the details but it all starts and ends with your stress response…it’s ingrained evolution.

We avoid the bad whenever possible and only when that’s impossible will we fight against it. This is why personal trainers like us often talk in terms of conflict and self-defence.

Your body and health degrades and you avoid the consequences as best as possible. You may debate even argue with yourself but this only adds frustration and feeds rationalizing i.e. “I don’t have time right now, I’ll do it later”.

Know this – those of us who do get and stay in shape are just cultivating the ability to confront the fight or flight reflex. We make it a priority to fight the primitive urge to shy away from the truth.

Your body needs you to defend it even if it turns into an all out brawl. The only thing you need to avoid is the unconscious tendency to run away.

Plant your feet and lean into the wind.
