Bones like muscle get weak if you don’t use them. This is why so many females get osteoporosis with age. It’s simply lack of use.
The issue with maintaining healthy bones (integral to your immune system) is how to use them. Only heavy loads on the bones force them to regenerate otherwise they don’t and become brittle instead.

Strength training…not cardio lifting but real muscle work is the only way to strengthen your bones. It takes serious weight to place the needed tension on your skeletal structure.
Bear in mind as well, once you can no longer count on the basic framework of your body everything else suffers and cannot properly take care of itself.
