If you care about yourself you take care of yourself. Sounds so straightforward why bother saying it at all? Because most people don’t care about themselves enough. They think taking “self-care” time means no noise and rest. That’s how you recover from intense activity….except that intense activity nowadays means only mentally and emotionally draining. The physical component has been removed from society a long time ago. And good riddance, the toil and labour destroyed our bodies and led to early graves.

Can you see where we’re going with this? Self-care as a preservation instinct no longer works. You can no longer take time off. You can feel it when you rest, you don’t ever feel refreshed. Superficially sure you took a breath but you can sense you’re wearing down at an ever increasing rate. There’s no actual way off the rollercoaster anymore. The rest you take is actually degrading your body as it weakens and as a result your rest makes you even more susceptible to brain and emotional drain. It’s a self perpetuating situation.
You can physically run a hamster wheel from place to place and even sweat it out with cardio but that “active” rest/de-stressing won’t cut it. Your brain and emotions are draining your tissues of their strength…you can feel it if you listen for it quietly. You try to give your body the rest it begs for but no amount of relaxing and rubbing sore body parts will solve the problem.
We assume that if you’re reading this you know what we think the solution is so rather than harp let this just be a reminder because sometimes knowing someone thinks about these things…helps.
Be well, be strong,
Andrew and Tierney
