Genes and Jeans

One of the more confusing aspects of getting in shape relates to genetics. The characteristics you were born with are somewhat fixed. Your parents share their genes and they are what they are. When looking for signs your fitness is headed in the right direction you are faced with your genetics. This is why comparison can be depressing and an easy cop out.

There are plenty of different body types and your general looks and ability are shaped by genetics. We always preach comparing you to you to help people keep a clear head about all this. How you fit in your jeans is only one measure of things. There are countless styles of clothing because of genetic diversity not because you can look like any body type you want.

The main fact to try and remind yourself of is everyone looks better with muscle. When your skin is filled out with muscle the shape is healthy and pleasing looking. You with muscle will always look far better than you without. Strength and fitness ability may be constrained by genetics but it always improves your image and self-image. Bottom line:

Strengthen your gene expression rather than loathing it”

Be well, be strong,
