A crazy common misconception is that if you “feel” like you’re exercising hard then you must be getting a good workout. If this were true people who perform manual labour for a living would be perfect examples of fitness and health.
The first and most significant problem especially for females is simply a lack of muscle. When you exercise your heart and lungs and all other sub-systems fuel the effort and movement…movement created by your muscles. The less muscle you have the less fuel you need.
“A person moving 5 lbs 100 times works far less than a person who does the same with 20 lbs.”

Exercise that doesn’t provide plenty of load/weight and more importantly “ever increasing weight” does little to improve and maintain fitness and health with age.
“Only making your muscles stronger will make the rest of you stronger”
